Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone looking for answers about moving to Morocco is often faced with many open questions. Residence permits, housing, company formation, or everyday life on site can all be planned clearly and securely with the right preparation. In our frequently asked questions, you will find compact, easy-to-understand answers based on real experience.

Our aim is to provide clear guidance and practical insights, so your move to Morocco is well prepared and can be carried out smoothly, without unnecessary complications or detours.

  • How do I get a residence permit in Morocco?

If you are moving to Morocco, you first enter visa-free and have 90 days to apply for your residence permit at the local police authority (Bureau des Étrangers). To obtain the “Carte de Séjour” you need:

▸ Valid passport (min. 6 months validity)
    ▸ Biometric passport photos
▸ Recent police clearance certificate (max. 3 months old)
▸ Rental contract or proof of ownership
▸ Bank statement from a Moroccan account
    ▸ Medical certificate
▸ Forms from the local prefecture

Processing time usually takes 4 to 12 weeks. The first permit is normally valid for 1 year.

If you are planning on moving to Morocco long-term, we support you with the entire residence process – from documents to local registration.

  • How does the consultation process work?

As a foreigner, you are not automatically allowed to work in Morocco. Employment is only possible if the employer proves that no Moroccan is available for the position. A much easier way is to start your own company (e.g., a SARL). The advantages:

    ▸ Independence & full control
▸ Residence permit can be based on it
▸ Attractive tax rates between 13% and 38% (depending on income)

We are happy to support you with the complete company formation process – from drafting the statutes to official registration.

  • How high are living costs and rents in Morocco?

Many expats are surprised: if you are moving to Morocco, a normal life with European standards is possible with €1,000–1,200 per month – often even less. Rents for 2–3 bedroom apartments in cities like Tangier or Agadir range between €250–400. Markets, food, hairdressers, and public transport are much cheaper than in Germany, while cars, electronics, and imported goods tend to be more expensive.

    An example:

    ▸ Rent: approx. €250–400
    ▸ Utilities (electricity/water/internet): approx. €50–90
    ▸ Food (local): approx. €150–300
▸ Transport: very cheap public transport (taxis from €0.50)
▸ Groceries from local markets are significantly cheaper than in Germany

  • What is the climate and infrastructure like in Morocco?

The coastal regions are mild and pleasant – summers are never too hot, and winters rarely drop below 10 °C. The inland areas are drier and hotter, while the Atlas Mountains even surprise with snow in winter. Infrastructure in the cities is generally solid: fiber-optic internet, taxis, shopping centers, and international schools. In rural areas, there can be shortages – for example in medical care or internet access. If you are moving to Morocco, it is important to choose your location according to your lifestyle needs.
